Maggie's sick day

We tried out Uh Oh pediatric emergency care this morning and was glad we went on in. Maggie has strep. So we canceled the Christmas get together we were going to have. Maggie got a shot and should be feeling better soon. In the mean time we've had a lazy day at home. She and I have been working hard on some "do-a-dot" artwork this evening.

Reading!

Here Hank is pointing to his favorite part of the Dr. Seuss book "Wacky Wednesday." He just worked his way through reading the WHOLE book with my help on a couple of words. He said he didn't think he could read a book, but he sure did! So proud. Even if he is mostly doing it so he can talk about a tree in a toilet :)

Book Fair

I posted this photo online a couple of weeks ago, but wanted to store it away here also. Mary Margaret and I both accompanied Hank's class to the Book Fair at school right before they left for Thanksgiving and it was just the sweetest thing. Hank kept spotting books that Maggie might enjoy, and then after we narrowed down his book selection, he offered one culled book to a friend who had also been interested in that one. He ended up buying (with his own money) a Doc McStuffins book for Maggie and a 3-D animal book with TWO pairs of glasses for himself. Then Grandmama bought one for Hank's class, and was to order one that he REALLY wanted but wasn't in stock. And then, because he was being so sweet, I bought him one of those goofy pointer things that he always goes crazy over. He found a Sophia the First book for Maggie that came with its own REAL AMULET NECKLACE! So if I was going to get that for Maggie I needed to balance it out with something he wanted. He picked the glow-in-the-dark-skeleton-hand variety of pointer and was thrilled to pieces.

He really can be extra thoughtful sometimes :)

Maggie has thoroughly enjoyed all her books and her special necklace.

Thanksgiving weekend

Our trip to Winnsboro started with a crazy adventure but quickly calmed down and ended after having a great time with family all around.


Lindsey, Granna and I made three batches of fudge this morning.


Hank and Maggie enjoyed playing with some of our awesome old toys.





We started a new family tradition with a hayride and weenie roast at Paw Paw Dan's on Thanksgiving evening.























Lunch at Pa Ferguson's was deliciously traditional, the weather sunny and freezing, and the visiting with the cousins, aunts, grandparents and extended relatives long overdue.


Hank quickly recovered from an injury received while tumbling with Avery. Our trip to the Franklin Medical Center was uneventful--we were the only ones there and were out in about 45 minutes after they gave him one staple to the cut on the back of his head. He was a trooper and the staff was just wonderful.





Aunt Z had a balloon and a couple of prizes waiting for him back at Grannas when we got done.


Now we're back in Shreveport and are feeling thankful for a good visit, easy ER trip, and safe travels in clear weather.

No cavities here!

We went for our 6 month checkups a couple of weeks ago and both kids did great! They make me proud by sitting perfectly still and just letting the cleaning happen. Believe me, there were plenty of kids there who put up a fight! We had no cavities, and as usual the dentist really bragged on all the "space" between their teeth. We came home with lots of stickers and prizes, and some sample dental floss. Hank has now made it his mission to floss his teeth a bajillion times a day, and is constantly offering everyone else some floss as well.

These pics are from the waiting room and when Hank had his x-rays made. Not sure how I got away without getting any photos of them in the actual dentist chairs this time :)

Dry erase marker fun

Hank was actually trying to finish each step of our bath time routine so he could write a word on this cute little dry erase board. Then Archie wanted in on the photos and of course Maggie needed to draw too. Good thing I bought two of these things :)

Snuggles

Maggie is feeling a little snotty and I think is a little tired from the time change and has been asking to snuggle a lot this evening. I absolutely love it :) The snuggles I mean. Not the sick/tiredness.

Wish List...

Just when I'm about to lose my mind with one of the kids, they'll go and do or say something ridiculously thoughtful. We had been talking about what we might like to prioritize for a Christmas Present for ourselves… Maybe a grill, maybe a tent… Then Hank told us that since grown ups don't get their wishes for Christmas (like Santa doesn't visit them) then he would wish for a grill and a tent so that we would get what we wanted.
