Trip to the Dentist

This was Hank's 3rd or 4th visit, but Maggie's very first trip to the dentist. I waited till the day before to tell them because I knew Hank would be all excited. He told Maggie all about it and got her excited too. They both loved it and patiently followed instructions and let the hygienist do her thing. We left with two bags full of loot and they've been playing with their prizes ever since.

I'm gonna be a great guy!

Just before having his teeth brushed Hank declared, "When I grow up, I'm going to be a great guy."

I said awww, and told him that he already was a great guy. He said, "Yeah, but I'm going to be even greater than I am now. (pause) And I'm going to use a blender. And I WON'T cover my ears when I hear loud noises."

Sounds like a great guy to me :)

No nap Maggie

Maggie is going through a phase where she refuses to nap in the afternoons. But she clearly still needs the rest. It pretty obvious when we get full on raging fits around supper time and bed/bath time. The girl is tired. Occasionally she'll accidentally fall asleep on the couch while watching tv in the afternoon. So now I have several photos of her konked out like this.

So sweet and angelic, and yet so frustrating to deal with a grumpy two-year-old. She fell asleep in the car on the way to the Revel last night. It took some fast talking but she finally did perk up and we all enjoyed the visit.

Laugh Out Loud

The kids were full of true "laugh out loud" comments yesterday and I wrote a few down to save for all eternity...

When Hank and I were about to set out for school at 7:45 Maggie ran up to us at the door and said to Hank "See ya later, Alligator!"
To which Hank dutifully replied "After while, Crocodile!"
It was so cute to see Maggie start it up on her own.

Then Hank's teacher told me they had been discussing their upcoming field trip and he was sad that I wasn't able to go with them. She tried to comfort him and explained that some parents work and that it's not always possible to go on every field trip. He quickly told her that "My mom just drinks tall caramel macchiatos all day." Really?!?! THAT's what I do all day, Hank? That sounds heavenly.

As Hank, Ollie, Gil and I approached our driveway walking home after school we saw the mail man  go to drop our mail in the box. Hank yelled "Good job!" but he was wearing headphones and didn't hear it. So when we got closer Hank got his attention a little better with "Hey Mailman! Nice job putting our mail in our mail box!" The mail man laughed and thanked him for the compliment.

And finally at suppertime James and Hank were trying to plan for the best day for James to join him for lunch at school and James asked what Hank's favorite school lunch was. After a little thought Hank yelled "Lettuce & pickles!" Huh? James made sure the lettuce and pickles comes with a hamburger on the side. That boy has a strange appetite, but thank goodness he LOVES the school lunches. Sure makes it easy for me!

School work

I was totally impressed with Hank's "F" worksheet from school yesterday. Look at how he sounded those words out--go Hank!

Anniversary Supper

We decided to get dressed up and then it seemed silly  not to take a nice family photo before going out to eat tonight. Tomorrow James and I celebrate 8 years of marriage! Hooray! For some reason we've always taken the kids with us to eat out at Ralph and Kacoo's (if we're in town), so we kept with that tradition once again. Hank and Maggie had been pretending to "dress up" for a pretend wedding earlier this weekend, and they really had a good time going to a "fancy" restaurant with cloth napkins and all. Everyone over ate, and then we all immediately changed into pajamas as soon as we got home. Nice end to a long, holiday weekend.
