Woody and Buzz

Up until yesterday, these two have served as Hank's Woody and Buzz -- from the original Toy Story. That's Woody on the left, if you can't tell. They're actually little bendable characters from Avery's birthday party goody bag (thanks to Aunt Z for saving us a couple of favor bags!). He has four cowboys total like this, all different colors, but these two specifically are Woody and Buzz. He's been watching a LOT of Toy Story I, and got to go with Ms. Chris to the theater to see Toy Story III, where he was apparently a perfect angel and sat still through the whole movie. Amazing.

Well, I had to pick up a kid's birthday present in the toy department of Target yesterday, so while I was there I snuck at peek at the humongous Toy Story III display they had out and found a REAL Woody doll. The package claimed it was "life-size" although James pointed out that it would be hard to measure life-size from a cartoon, but whatever. It had a working pull string and everything. Soooo neat. I was soooo excited. Until I looked at the price tag: $45.00. Seriously!!!??? $45.00???!!! I couldn't bring myself to buy it. We just don't buy Hank toys unless there's a holiday to warrant it, and I wouldn't have paid $45.00 for that even if it was Super Christmas. So I settled for a neat little set of smaller plastic Woody AND Buzz.

We gave them to him last night after bath and he seemed really happy to play with them. But the more I watched him try the pull string, attempt to open & close Buzz's helmet, and add a flattened slap bracelet to Buzz to serve as wings (also a prize from the aforementioned goody bag) I got more and more disappointed. They're just molded plastic. Only their arms and legs moved. It kinda broke my heart. WHY did that real Woody have to be so expensive! I was still glad I didn't buy it, but it would have been SO cool! Then after a few minutes, just out of nowhere, without looking up from playing, Hank said "thank you Mama!" all cute and serious. Awwww. He totally loved them. He cuddled with them during milk time, then after he kissed me good night he held up each one so I could kiss them good night, then he slept with them all night long.

This morning he stumbled out of bed carrying both Woody and Buzz and his Curious George doll. And again told me "thank you Mama" as I was changing him out of his PJ's. So, so sweet.
